The Jefferson County Public Safety Center construction project, located in Birmingham, Alabama, consisted of a new 10-level County Courthouse facility containing 575 cells capable of housing 612 inmates. Draper & Associates provided a number of services in this $17.5 million project which was successfully completed in Spring 1985.
Draper & Associates was intimately involved in the management of all phases of this project including design and construction. During the Design Phase, an Overall Design Schedule was developed in coordination with key participants and bi-weekly meetings were conducted to monitor this design schedule and resolve issues affecting progress.
Draper & Associates continued providing project management during the Construction Phase. The Firm developed an Overall Project Schedule (OPS) in consultation with designers, contractors, and subcontractors to establish the work flow logic and completion goals. This schedule was supported by the development of detailed Near Term Schedules on a bi-weekly basis to effectively monitor specific design and construction activities in addition to rescheduled activities. Draper & Associates also facilitated bi-weekly Job Coordination Meetings with the contractor and subcontractors throughout the life of the project to evaluate progress for specific trades relative to the Overall Project Schedule. Draper & Associates developed and maintained a computerized Materials Status Log to track submittal, approval, ordering and ultimate delivery of all critical project materials and equipment.
In order to fully support the overall vision of the project, Draper & Associates conducted bi-weekly Steering committee Meetings with key project participants including the Owners, Architects and Contractors to identify and resolve major issues before progress was impacted.
