DRAPER & ASSOCIATES were engaged to provide Program Management Services for the $20 million corporate consolidation and facilities upgrade of Atlanta-based Sales Technologies, Inc. Sales Technologies is the team of technology and systems professionals behind the most successful healthcare sales forces in the world. They provide continuous automation solutions and 24-hour on-call technical support to more than forty thousand sales executives and representatives in the healthcare industry. The facility consolidation and upgrade was an integral part of ensuring leading edge technology for their customers through the next century.
Draper & Associates were retained in May 1997 to provide program management services for all aspects of the project. In this capacity, Draper & Associates was responsible for structuring, implementing and managing systems and processes to guide the integrated development and review of plans, budgets, and schedules necessary to ensure the successful, on time completion of the project. These systems were established to facilitate communication amongst all parties, monitor progress against schedule and budget, and to support decision-making through a facilitated process of issue identification and resolution.
Draper & Associates were faced with several specific challenges:
- Meet move-in date despite the project being two months behind schedule.
- Serve as the owner's construction manager overseeing the construction build-out of two facilities -- each with its own budgetary constraints, unique design requirements, and general contractor.
- Develop, coordinate, and execute a comprehensive move plan consolidating four dispersed facilities to two new facilities within demanding time limits - some as short as one hour.
- Ensure customer support remained uninterrupted during relocations.
As part of the program manager efforts, Draper & Associates developed an Overall Project Schedule encompassing all requirements for both facilities. Separate program update meetings were held for each critical aspect of the project. The information gathered in individual program update meetings was presented in a concise executive briefing format to senior-level Sales Technologies mangers to facilitate timely and well-informed decisions. The end result of Draper & Associates' involvement with the project was on-time construction completion and relocation to the new facilities with little or no impact on daily operations.
